Turkana is one of the 47 counties in Kenya located north-west of the country bordering Lake Turkana in the east, Uganda to the west. It is known to be the driest county in the country as it receives the least rainfall. As of 2019 census, Turkana carries a population of about 1,016,174, or 2.14% of the entire countries population. They are of the Nilotic ethnicity and their population makes them the third largest group in the country.
With Lake Turkana lying in the east of the county, there is a lot of potential for farming. WOVIA intends to find a way of utilising the water from the river to enable sustainable agribusiness in the area. This will however begin with drilling boreholes. Once we have a number of families already engaged with farming and able to support larger projects, we will develop future plans.
